IIT Bombay
The Book design celebrating 50 years of IIT Bombay being the premier education engineering institute in India. The design uses the traditional India Motif of the Lotus as a metaphor of “Gyana” that is knowledge and learning. This lotus has been die cut and pop-up to give it 3D depth. The design uses a central mandala like Grid structure and sacred geometry showing that everything originates from the center of the lotus. It fuses indo-islamic calligraphy styles with futuristic optical art motifs. Die cutting, blind embossing and foil stamping production techniques have been used to great effect. Depending how the book cover is folded multiple forms of the lotus are seen thus offering different views showing that knowledge is eternal. The book was released by the then president of India Dr. Abdul Kalam.
